January 23 – February 27 (6 sessions)

This course will teach watercolour techniques for novice or experienced painters. Topics will include several methods of paint application, saving whites, the power of complimentary colours, mixing greens, browns, and blacks, and composition using thumbnail sketches from photos. Demonstrations will teach rendering light and shadow, textures, reflections, trees, water, fog, and people. Classes will include explanations, demonstrations, and critiques. Students will create paintings for homework and corrections to problems will be provided in class as aids for the entire class.

 

Peter Martocchio

Formal education includes a Master of Arts in French language, literature, and civilization from Middlebury College's Graduate School of French in France, and a liberal arts BA in French from Bates College in Maine. Informal education includes courses, workshops, and seminars from professional artists along with personal study and research, and over 25 years' painting experience.
