Mondays, 2:00pm – 3:30pm

February 24 – March 16  (4 sessions)

This goal of this four-week course is to provide enough background information to generate an appreciation of modern molecular genetics without all of the details. No prior experience in the biological sciences is required. The course will begin with the basic structure of the double helix and how this simple structure (only 4 basic subunits) encodes for the materials that make up living things. We’ll learn how changes in the code occur, resulting in disease, but also allowing for the variation that results in evolution. Finally, we’ll learn how science is applying nature’s principles to improve the human condition, especially in the area of health and wellness.
