Expanding Your Writing Toolkit

Rachel Cooper | 15 seats available Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. — 11:30 a.m. February 2 — March 9 (6 sessions)

 

Participants will learn and practise a variety of stylistic techniques to polish their writing and make it more confident and engaging. In a supportive and friendly atmosphere, everyone will be encouraged to take their writing skills up a notch, whether they’re experienced writers or just beginning to explore the possibilities.
 
Specific modules include:
 

  • 5 ways to tighten any piece of writing
  • Giving and receiving effective feedback
  • Showing vs. telling: what’s the difference, and how to get the most out of each
  • Plain English: what we mean by it, and its value in dialogue
  • Story structure: the story arc explained, and how to apply it
  • How to edit your own writing for power and clarity

If you like words and like to write, this course is for you. You’ll learn cool ways to play with words and sharpen your writing.

Rachel Cooper (www.rachelcooper.ca) is a professional editor and writer. Her editing clients include businesses, government agencies, not-for-profits, academic institutions, and authors of memoir and fiction. Her writing has appeared in a variety of publications, and two short plays have been performed in the King’s Shorts Festival, Annapolis Royal.
